Visas are necessary by all nationals apart from those of Malta and Arab countries. All Egyptian Consulates are authorized to grant entry Egypt visa Requirement.Passport Authorities at all ports of entry are also empowered to grant visas on the spot. If your voyage is on overland visas can be got from neighboring countries without much of a problem. A visa cannot be obtained at the Israeli border.

There is usually a two week grace period after the expiry date of a visa. Visas can be extended for up to a the time of six months but you will usually be required to show you have enough money to maintain your stay and show bank receipts indicating you have enough sufficient money. Credit card receipts for purchases or cash advances are generally not accepted.

You can tour the Sinai area between the Israeli border crossing of Taba and Sharm el-Sheikh without a visa, but you will only be issued with the entry stamp permitting you to stay 14 days.

It is not a necessity for nationals entering Egypt to register with the police within one week of arrival – this was scrapped off in early 1997.
